Former Amoy Maritime Affairs Office
In 1862, the British government set up the Maritime Customs Service in Xiamen according to The Treaty of Sino British New Amendment, an appendix of the Treaty of Tianjin. In the same year, Xiamen Maritime Affairs Hall was established. This agency was in charge of customs affairs under the Xiamen’s Maritime Customs Service. The existing American-designed Maritime Affairs Hall was purchased in 1883 and rebuilt in 1914.
