The Indonesian Chinese Huang Yizhu returned to China, founded the China and South Sea Bank Limited in 1921, and began the note issuing business in the same year. The bank’s headquarters was set up in Shanghai, with branches in big cities such as Shanghai, Tianjin, Wuhan, Hong Kong and so on. The Xiamen branch was built in 1922. The preserved building was the Kulangsu branch of China and South Sea Bank Limited.
